CLEVELAND, OH (February 22, 2008)-For the new hunting enthusiast, the thrill of the hunt doesn't end with making that first shot. The 71 st Annual Cleveland Sport, Travel & Outdoor Show, in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife (ODNR), will educate show-goers about properly handling wild game after the hunt is complete. From the moment the animal is harvested, field dressing your deer the correct way is essential to preserving the meat and your trophy.

As with any game, proper field dressing and thorough cooking is always recommended. For the first time, the Sport Show in Cleveland will offer an interactive field dressing demonstration to highlight proper techniques and best practices from area experts.

"It is usually human error that contributes to the cause of most wild game food contaminations, which is why I feel it is so very important to address these proper techniques," said Reno "Jay" Reda, Wildlife Officer/Outdoor Skills Specialist. Reda continues, "The Cleveland Sport, Travel & Outdoor Show is the ideal audience for this particular topic."

The field dressing demonstrations will take place Saturday, March 15 at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. A 30-minute "Q&A" session will follow the demonstration. Some guidelines that will be addressed during this seminar include:

. Regulations before moving the carcass
. Proper storage and drainage of the game prior to dressing
. Who to contact if a deer appears to be extremely unhealthy
. Proper hand washing while dressing and processing the meat
. Parts of the animal that should not be processed for human consumption
. Proper cutting instruments to avoid unnecessary injuries
